About Us!

Kate Connolly, the founder of WorkAfterKids hasn't worked for five and a half years! It's been a great privilege to be there for my daughters but it's also been hard work. I took the decision, along with my husband, not to immediately return to work after our first daughter was born. That was the right decision for us, it obviously isn't for everyone. Although it's been wonderfully fulfilling, as time went on I felt the need to keep in touch with the world of work in some way as I worried that my skills were diminishing and would be less relevant when I did return. My background was a career in housing management after a creative art degree. Like many people I drifted into a career that became a habit. For me I saw my saw maternity leave as a fresh start both with a new family and eventually a new career.
During my maternity leave I've taken OU courses, done voluntary work and made several entrepreneurial ventures from selling secondhand maternity clothes to making children's clocks.

From my experience, and so many parents I have spoken with, there has been a real need for a resource which will give parents the help and advice they need in one location. That is why I decided to create this site. The information you'll find here is based on the experience of people like you and includes links to services and government agencies that you may need.
